Referring to the age-old craft of Delft Blue that the Dutch made popular worldwide, the design combines a traditional scene with the MVRDV-designed Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen, which - as the world's first publicly accessible art depot - dares to do something that has never been done before. Two Dutch icons thus offer complementary visions of Dutch identity, synthesized by the reflections in the facade of the building.
Dimensions: 13 x 13 x 1 cm
Based on a 17th century plate, De Lampetkan (in 1676 - 1725) that is part of the Boijmans collection, the depot tile is an encapsulation of the idea of 'Dutchness' through time.
The tile was designed by MVRDV in collaboration with Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and produced locally in the Netherlands.
